Come Home to Christmas Past

Historic Pennypacker Mills is never more appealing to the senses, to remembrance, or to the gathering of family than at Christmastime. The beauty, spirit, and joy of a Victorian Christmas is at the heart of Holiday Tours as this Montgomery County (PA) historic site offers visions of old-fashioned Christmas traditions, decorations and much more. Starting Tuesday, November 24th through Sunday, January 10th, 2016, FREE Holiday Tours will be offered of Pennsylvania Governor Samuel Pennypacker’s (1903-1907) home set on 170-acres of bucolic countryside.

Look for holiday wreaths on windowsills, swags with shiny beaded strands across mantles, and beautiful ribbons weaved through greens to bring shine and luster to holiday decorations. See a Christmas tree decorated with handmade ornaments and imported glass balls, strands of beads, shiny gold and silver Dresden ornaments, and small candles on branch tips that remind us all of how it was in the early 1900’s when electricity was not available in every home.

Visit the Parlors and see the plainly wrapped presents laid under the tree, clear toy candy glistening on a cake tier, and vintage greeting cards from friends and family on the desk. The Dining Room is resplendent in cranberry wallpaper with silvery decor and a table set for a holiday feast. Climb the stairs to the Guest Quarters where the Sitting Room is always a site to behold with children’s toys, garlands framing the large window, and comfortable bedrooms decorated with small reminders of Christmas traditions. Visit the Servants Area where servants scurried about wrapping presents and preparing holiday foods to serve to guests and family.

Bring the entire family for Holiday Tours. Discover the Christmas of the past as you celebrate the Christmas of today!

From vintage inspired decorations to gift items, books, to old-fashioned candies (Wilbur Buds & Clear Toy Candy), and much more, visit the Museum Shop and bring a bit of Victorian style to your home. Located on the second floor of the mansion, the Shop is available throughout the holiday season and accepts cash, checks and credit cards.

Site Hours: Closed Mondays. Open Tues-Sat: 10 am to 4 pm; Sun: 1 to 4 pm; Closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve & Day, New Year's Eve & Day.
