Welcoming the Public into Public History

This event is part of the Salem State University's History Speakers Series: "Confronting History: Public Historians and Artists Reckon with the Past."

Historical literacy today seems tragically low, and yet the importance of understanding history has never been greater. With this as the backdrop, this talk explore how we might welcome the public into public history in ways that help large and small. What are the policies and practices that block or slow these efforts? For those who want to make an impact, where should you go if you want to touch the largest number of people? Please come prepared to discuss these issues and more with Lee Wright, founder of the History List and History Camp.

Lee Wright is the founder of The History List (TheHistoryList.com), which helps connect people interested in history to the historic sites and events in their communities and across the country, and History Camp (HistoryCamp.org), which brings together people from all walks of life to share their passion for history. History Camp is now in its sixth year and will take place in five cities across the country, including Boston on March 16. He has presented at the AASLH, NEMA, and Massachusetts History Conferences. He works with early-stage and growth-stage companies as a launch-and-grow chief marketing officer.

This event is co-sponsored by the SSU Graduate School and the Massachusetts History Alliance.  It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Margo Shea at mshea@salemstate.edu or 978-542-2610.
