When: Monday October 26, 2020, 1PM -2PM EDST
Where: Zoom

EVENT DETAILS:

The internet is a wealth of information just waiting for eager family historians to explore. At the same rate, the amount of digitized resources and records for genealogy can feel overwhelming. AmericanAncestors.org alone offers thousands of searchable, digitized collections containing more than one billion records. These collections include vital records, cemetery records, probate records, genealogies, and scholarly journals. Where does one start? How does one navigate and search certain digitized record groups successfully?

In this lecture, Molly Rogers, Database Manager for Digital Projects at American Ancestors, will delve into what online resources exist, how to navigate AmericanAncestors.org and other popular genealogical sites, how to perform effective database searches, and more! Whether you are brand new to family history or have been working on brick-walls for years, you are bound to learn new tips and techniques about using digital resources for genealogical research.

Molly Rogers, Database Manager for Digital Projects, works on our database collections, maintaining the accuracy of current databases and managing teams of volunteers to transcribe and add new collections. Originally from York, Pennsylvania, Molly studied English and French at Colby College in Maine and has a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. She enjoys many outdoor pursuits such as whitewater kayaking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing and has a few indoor hobbies like reading, knitting and creating a genealogy website for her grandmother’s family.
