Experience chamber music in a period-appropriate setting as the Sheffield Chamber Players perform string quartets by Beethoven and Shostakovich in the grand “Living Hall” at Historic New England’s magnificent c. 1878 Eustis Estate.

Beethoven wrote his tenth quartet while taking shelter from Napoleon's siege of Vienna, while Shostakovich battled an onslaught of debilitating illnesses to write his own tenth quartet. Despite these challenges, each produced a glorious quartet full of vitality and intensity. This program is the seventh in an annual series of pairings (fifteen in total) curated by Sheffield's Artistic Directors to showcase these two great composers.

Beethoven | String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat major, Op. 74 (Harp)
Shostakovich | String Quartet No. 10 in E-flat major, Op. 118
