Art Consultant Jessica Hagen, Director of Jessica Hagen Fine Art & Design, will discuss how to blend what you love—whether antique, modern or vintage—to create an environment that celebrates the essence of you. Jessica Hagen is the owner and director of Jessica Hagen Fine Art + Design, founded in February 2005. Located at 226 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, the gallery features new works by local and regional artists. As Director, Ms. Hagen curates the gallery’s collection of painting, sculpture, and jewelry.  An artist herself, Ms. Hagen also exhibits her own paintings and jewelry. Originally from Woodstock, New York, Ms. Hagen fell in love with Newport after attending Rhode Island School of Design and has lived in the city-by- the-sea since 1992. She is active in the community and currently serves on the board of the Newport Historical Society.

Material Memories: Jewelry from the Collection of Historic New England


Historic New England’s Associate Curator Laura Johnson will provide an overview of their extensive jewelry collection during the lecture. Johnson will explore how New Englanders have used jewelry to tell the stories of their lives and will discuss exhibit highlights such as the plastic “pop” beads favored by folk art historian Nina Fletcher Little and an enameled butterfly brooch by London jewelers Child & Child.

Painted Rooms of Newport County: Colonial & Federal
Author Ann Eckert Brown will share some of the research from her latest book “Painted Rooms of Rhode Island: Colonial and Federal”, offering a sample overview of early American interior painted decoration with Rhode Island specific examples. Mrs. Brown has extensive hands-on experience as a practitioner and instructor of 18th and 19th century painting techniques, a topic she has researched for over four decades.
