Synergia: A Moveable Exhibit of Local History, Poetry and Visual Art beginning at Hudson’s Historic Town Hall

Hudson, Bolton, Harvard, Marlborough, Shrewsbury and Sudbury and Surrounding Communities -  June 7

The River’s Edge Arts Alliance is very excited to present  Synergia, an engaging new moveable exhibit of local history, poetry and visual art that will move from town to town in order to be enjoyed by multiple communities.  Hudson, Bolton, Harvard, Marlborough, Shrewsbury and Sudbury as well as surrounding community residents are welcome to attend.

In our towns we have historical societies, councils and museums which house various educational pieces of our communities past. We also have talented artists and writers who crave the opportunity to create pieces of work worthy of public viewing. We have townspeople interested in finding out where we come from and how we got to where we are. Through Synergia, we have brought these elements together to increase the awareness of our community history through the lens of the literary and visual arts.

By introducing pen to paintbrush, we are more aptly able to tell our story in a visual and oral fashion, much like our forefathers did so many years ago. The overall encounter with this project has been multi- dimensional in nature, breathing life into our local heritage and engaging our community in a more sense-driven experience.

How it worked:
Representatives from participating local historical societies or councils in the immediate area gave  brief lectures about one historical element in their town such as a building, family, business, landmark, item, figure or event which they felt best represented the towns’ history.  Literary artists were asked to respond to the historical element by writing a poem of 40 lines or less and visual artists were asked to create an artistic piece utilizing oils, acrylics, pastels, pen and ink or watercolors which could be displayed on an easel responding to one particular historical element which struck their interest.

The pieces were sent to the River’s Edge Arts Alliance and brought to the next meeting, where poems and visual arts pieces were swapped between literary and visual artists. The artists then took the swapped piece assigned to them and created a second corresponding poem or visual art piece for this unique  moveable exhibit which begins on June 10th and runs through July 1st at Hudson’s Town Hall .   Bolton Public Library will be housing the exhibit in the month of August.  A full calendar will be available at the first reception on Friday, June 7th from 7 – 9:30.  You may view past meeting videos on our website upwitharts.org/synergia
