Springfield Armory was the U.S. Army's primary small arms research, development, and manufacturing facility for 174 years. During WWII, employment peaked at just under 14,000 employees, with 42%of the workforce women. These soldiers of production worked around the clock manufacturing what General George S. Patton described as, “the greatest battle implement ever devised” - the M1 rifle. FREE.
