Skirmishes on Seminary Ridge - opening events for the Seminary Ridge Museum

Gettysburg's newest museum--the Seminary Ridge Museum--will open on July 1, 2013--150 years to the day that the Battle of Gettysburg began and was waged on the museum's grounds; the museum building itself became the battle's largest field hospital. The Museum, on the campus of Gettysburg's Lutheran Theological Seminary, will tell the story of the first day of the Battle, Civil War medicine and the role that faith played in the conflict. Events are planned June 28-July.

June 29
Throughout the day: The Virginia History Mobile exhibit will also be open to the public.
9am - 6pm: Encampment and Living History throughout the museum grounds and trail
11am: Skirmish on the west side of Seminary Ridge
1-4pm: Museum preview tours for reenactors
7-10pm: 2nd Carolina String Band outdoor performance

June 30

9am: Reenactor church service
10am-1pm: Museum preview tours for reenactors
10am - 6pm: Encampment and Living History throughout the museum grounds and trail
1pm: Skirmish on the west side of Seminary Ridge
5pm: Celtic Music Gettysburg! performance
9pm: Peace Portico Service with Presiding Bishop of the ELCA

July 1

8am: Cannon firing to commemorate the first shot of the Battle of Gettysburg
9am - 6pm: Encampment and Living History throughout the museum grounds and trail

10am: Grand opening ceremony and ribbon cutting
10:45am: Ceremonial cannon firing
