Sisterhood in Pittsburgh: Women's Liberation from the 1960s to Today
Thurs., March 14, 2013, 6 p.m.

The personal became political for American women in the 1960s - the Equal Rights Amendment, Equal Pay Action, Title VII, Griswold v. Connecticut Supreme Court, and National Organization for Women all contributed to changing gender roles and sexual identities. The year 1968 saw the Miss America Pageant protest, the first public speak-out against abortion laws, and the first use of the slogan "Sisterhood is Powerful."

What did sisterhood mean in Pittsburgh in the '60s? Is sisterhood still powerful today?

As part of the exhibition 1968: The Year That Rocked America, join Pat Ulbrich - leading scholar on the women's liberation movement in Pittsburgh - as she moderates a panel of Pittsburgh feminist activists from the 1960s including Alma Speed Fox, Molly Rush, Cindy Judd Hill, and Sister Patricia McCann.
