As a state loyal to the union, Maryland slaves were not included in the promised freedom of the Emancipation Proclamation in January 1863. Join archivist Chris Haley and historians Kate Larson and Steve Whitman for a panel discussion that will illuminate the arduous journey toward emancipation in Maryland. Program in partnership with: Freedman & Southern Society Project at UMD College Park and the National Park Service/Hampton National Historic Site.
