Parent and Me in Motion

Bring your children ages 2-5 to the Museum for an action-oriented version of Parent & Me!  Kids will experience the history of St. Louis through movement. Families will visit a gallery to enjoy a few hands-on activities and one craft.  Families will join professional dancer and storyteller Mama Lisa for an interactive movement workshop!  Each class has a different theme.

 

Week One 2/6: Olympic Warm Up – World’s Fair Gallery
During the World’s Fair in 1904, St. Louis was the first U.S. city to host the Olympics! Kids will warm up, complete an obstacle course, and compete in track activities!

Week Two 2/13: Workin’ on the Mississippi – Currents Gallery
Kids will pay tribute to dock workers as they sing, move, and groove from New Orleans, to Memphis, to St. Louis!

Week Three 2/20: Hokey Pokey - STL250 Gallery
Celebrate the city’s 250th birthday with the hokey pokey!  Kids will learn how to count by 50s in the song.

Week Four 2/27: Katherine Dunham - Reflections Gallery
Katherine Dunham, who lived and worked in the St. Louis area for much of her life, blended classical movement with African and Caribbean rhythms.  Kids will learn about Dunham’s work in Haiti as they shake and shimmy in a dance that celebrates the Haitian marketplace!
