Come see what we are all about, & see our amazing students in action!

The top 3 entries in each of nine categories from the Commonwealth's four districts will come together to compete for the State Mass History Day title!  The top two entries in each category will move on to the National History Day competition held at the University of Maryland in June.

All student documentaries & live historical performances are open to the public.  They run all morning from approx 8:30-12:00.  Each project runs 10 mins & then students have 10 mins of alone-time with the judges.  The audience leaves the room during the critique & then comes back in to see the next doc or performance.  

The displays/exhibits, papers & websites will be on display for the public after the judging is over, approx 12:00 - 2:30.

All age groups & categories will be going on simultaneously.  Programs are available in the lobby, so you may plan which docs & performances you would like to see.  Titles are listed along with times & room #'s, so you can pick which topics interest you.  Or just stick with one category & watch all Senior Individual Performances, or all Junior Group Documentaries, for example.

How old are the students?  Students are divided up into 2 divisions: junior (grades 6-8) & senior (grades 9-12).

How do they compete?  Students may do a paper, performance, documentary, exhibit, or website.  A student may work alone or in a group.  While the physical rules vary from category to category, the underlying rules (historical accuracy, relation to theme, quality of bibliography, etc.) are the same across the board, from historical research papers to websites.

Where do they compete?  Regional contests are held simultaneously across the State at four district contest sites.  The districts are Northeast, Greater Boston, South Shore & Central-West.  The top 3 from each category then compete at the State competition.  The 2015 state competition venue has not been set yet.

Is there a theme?  There is a national theme.  The theme for 2015 is Leadership & Legacy.

After winning at a school level, District level, & State level, students compete in Washington D.C., alongside students from other states, as well as students from Guam, Italy, Germany, Canada, Shanghai & Korea.  Forty-nine states competed last year!
