International Graduate Historical Studies Conference at Central Michigan University

What happens when scholars remove the lines that separate states, nations, generations, the sexes, and other divisions in society? The International Graduate Historical Studies Conference at Central Michigan University seeks to find out on March 28-29, 2014.

Increasingly, scholars in a variety of fields are ignoring the societal boundaries and geographical borders that have long separated those engaged in historical inquiry. The International Graduate Historical Studies Conference will offer graduate students in the humanities and the social sciences the opportunity to explore the benefits, the challenges, and the limitations of crossing borders and moving beyond boundaries. We invite proposals for papers or panels that adopt a transnational or interdisciplinary approach to historical topics. We will also welcome proposals that approach historical topics in ways that are more traditional. In keeping with the theme of the conference, we will organize papers into panels that highlight the transnational and interdisciplinary dimensions of historical inquiry.

The International Graduate Historical Studies Conference will host “Relocating History, Repositioning the Past” at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, on March 28-29, 2014. IGHSC will present cash prizes for the best papers in several categories.

We are also very happy to announce that the IGHSC’s keynote speaker for the conference will be Princeton historian Linda Colley.

Those interested in presenting should send an abstract of no more than 350 words and a short CV as an attachment to histconf@cmich.edu.

The final deadline for submissions is February 15, but the chairs will give preference to submissions received before February 1, 2014.
