FILM: RETURN TO NORUMBEGA
Norumbega Park (1897-1963) was located in Newton’s Auburndale neighborhood. During its heyday, the park was one of New England’s prime recreational sites, drawing thousands of visitors each weekend in season. Beginning in 1930, Norumbega Park, also the home of the Totem Pole Ballroom, was known to big band and swing music lovers everywhere as “America’s Most Beautiful Ballroom.” Co-produced by Historic Newton, Return to Norumbega is a history of Norumbega Park based on the work of the late Bob Pollock, who grew up near the park, worked there as a teenager, and spent more than fifteen years collecting Norumbega photographs and memorabilia.
