Engaging Future Generations: Hosts and Visitors at the Grand Hotel

This event is part of the Museum’s free Summer 2019 Speaker Series, which will accompany our exhibition “The Grand Hotels of the White Mountains,” on view May 17-September 12, 2019. 

New Hampshire’s Grand Hotels have stood the test of time by adapting to the needs of both visitors and employees. While the ‘grandness’ of these sites has only grown, the specific appeals of visiting and working in their natural opulence change with each generation. Can a Grand Hotel re-brand itself and still maintain its significant heritage? As demographics and market dynamics change, what can we foresee for the future of these historic sites?

Dr. Adam Keul is a tourism geographer and Associate Professor of Tourism Management and Policy at Plymouth State University where he studies the dynamics of tourism development at both global and local scales. His work has addressed public access, human-environment interactions, and political economies of tourism in a variety of contexts throughout the US.
