About this presentation: One of America's greatest naval heroes, David Glasgow Farragut, was the nation's first rear admiral, vice admiral, and admiral. Farragut's dynamic leadership is evidenced in such naval victories as the Battle of New Orleans. Admiral Farragut is probably best remembered for his decisive order during the Battle of Mobile Bay when he commanded, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!” This action enabled the Union fleet to win this critical engagement. Farragut was a true hero of the Civil War and the highest ranking Hispanic person to serve in the war.
