Years after her grandparents had passed away, Wildman found a cache of letters written to her grandfather revealing the destroyed world that was her family’s prewar Vienna. One woman’s letters stood out: her name was Valerie Scheftel—Valy. She was her grandfather's lover who had remained in Europe after he fled to the United States in 1938. Why had she not left with him? What had happened to her? Learn about Wildman's research journey across five different countries and what she discovered about one woman's story. Book sales and signing to follow. Held in conjunction with the AJHS-NEA exhibit on the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. Register today!
