The Boston Street Railway Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to preserving and promoting the history of public transportation in greater Boston and New England.

In 1959, ten young men banded together to save a newly-retired Boston streetcar, Type 5 No. 5706, from the scrapper, and the BSRA was born. Soon, they launched a news magazine, began holding regular meetings, and organized “fantrips” around the Boston transit system, growing the Association into the vibrant group it is today.

Our present activities and publications serve to educate our members and the general public on the role transit has had in shaping our region, and through preservation of 5706 and our library, we look to inform future generations.
