Tyler was born in Greenway Plantation which was about three miles away from what is now the John Tyler Home historic site in Sherwood Forest, 14501 John Tyler Memorial Highway, Charles City, Virginia. The house is located 18 miles west of Williamsburg and 35 miles east of Richmond on Virginia Rte. 5. The grounds are open daily for self-guided tours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
