James Earl Carter, also known as "Jimmy Carter" was born and raised in Plains, Georgia, on October 01, 1924. He was delivered at Wise Sanitarium and the first president to be born in a hospital. Presently, the hospital is now the Lillian G. Carter Nursing Center and operated as a mental hospital. To know more about the early life, family background, accomplishments, and life-long journey of President Jimmy Carter, the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is open to the public. The site is located in Plains, Georgia. About 10 miles west of Americus on US 280.
