The roots of the Peoria Historical Society can be traced as far back as 1839. Incorporated in 1934 by volunteers, the organization’s mission has long been to preserve the unique history of the Central Illinois River Valley and the Peoria area for the education and enjoyment of generations to come.

The focus of the Society’s work has changed and evolved through the years, but the commitment to historic preservation remains strong. The Society depends on volunteers to assist with their mission.

Mission: To preserve, celebrate and share the stories of the Peoria area.
