he Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Indians hosts its annual Otoe-Missouria Winter Encampment at the 7 Clans First Council Event Center in Newkirk, Oklahoma. The Otoe-Missouria Tribal complex is located in North Central Oklahoma. Today most of the nearly 3,400 tribal members still live in the state of Oklahoma, but there are members who live throughout the United States including New Jersey, California, Hawaii and Alaska. The Otoe-Missouria Tribe is still one of the smaller tribes in Oklahoma, but led by a progressive Tribal Council, they have parlayed their gaming revenue and financial services into long-term investment in other sustainable industries including retail ventures, agriculture, natural resource development, hospitality, entertainment and several other projects still in development.
Tribal members perpetuate tribal traditions with feasts, dances, songs, language revitalization and encampments. Members are still identified with their clans. The Otoe-Missouria Tribe has seven clans: Bear, Buffalo, Elk, Eagle, Pigeon, Owl and Beaver.
