The Milwaukee Indian Education Committee is a volunteer based committee in the Milwaukee Metro area comprised of members of Native organizations and the community. This group was founded in 1971 by community members that recognized need and who have been making an impact and reaching new goals every year. Among their efforts is sponsorship of the annual New Years event, Milwaukee Sobriety Pow Wow Midnight Special on December 31 at the Teaching Lodge at Indian Community School in Franklin, Wisconsin.
