In 1914, Montana women won the right to vote, six years before the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment.  In honor of this centennial, the Montana Historic Society have been hosting several programs based on Montana Women’s history topic in 2014.  Bighorn Canyon is joining Montana in celebrating this important anniversary year with a tour of the Caroline Lockhart Ranch on Sunday, July 20, 2014.  Participants should meet at the gate at the Lockhart Ranch  at 1:00 to begin the tour.

Caroline Lockhart never considered herself a suffragette, however, she was an independent woman before her time.  She dove into the Boston Harbor in a scuba diving suite, jumped out of building into a firemen’s net and travel out west by herself all to get a good story.  Ranger Christy Fleming will give a tour of the ranch as well as go into detail on Caroline’s life as an independent woman.

We hope you are able to celebrate Montana Suffrage 100th Anniversary with us at the Lockhart ranch.  For more information please contact Christy Fleming at 307-548-5406.
