Join us for a lecture with the History Center's Director of African American Programs, Samuel W. Black, who will address the attitudes of Americans toward the legacy of slavery, looking specifically at the history of the abolition movement and slavery in Western Pennsylvania and how it affects biased attitudes that exist today.

Mr. Black earned degrees in African American studies from the University of Cincinnati and the State University of New York at Albany.  He is the curator of the History Center’s current award-winning exhibition, From Slavery to Freedom, and the author of "Soul Soldiers: African Americans and the Vietnam Era" and editor of "The Civil War in Pennsylvania: The African American Experience."
