The Future of Civil War History: Looking Beyond the 150th
Gettysburg College and Gettysburg National Military Park
March 14-16, Gettysburg, PA

Gettysburg College and Gettysburg National Military Park are pleased to announce an innovative 3-day conference on the frontiers of academic and public history. Through a wide variety of presentations, panels, working groups and field experiences, attendees will explore new ways to engage diverse audiences in meaningful conversations about the history and legacy of the American Civil War.

The agenda will feature formal talks, roundtables and working groups (seminar-like conversations) that will facilitate discussions between panelists and the audience about how the historical community can make the Civil War past more engaging, more accessible, and more usable to public audiences as we look beyond the 150th commemorations and to the future of Civil War history. View the conference program (pdf).

Featured speakers include James McPherson, Dwight Pitcaithley, Cathy Stanton, Ed Linenthal, Stephen Berry, Tiya Miles, Scott Hartwig and John Hennessy.

The conference will be centered at Gettysburg College, but the keynote panel will take place at the new Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. A wide variety of site visits and field experiences will complement the discussion sessions, allowing participants ample opportunity to move the conversation outside the conference room and lecture hall.

Scholars, public historians, museum professionals, educators, graduate students, and members of the general public are equally encouraged to participate. Please register early as space is limited.
