The Abolitionists and the Underground Railroad in Iowa

Join Brian Behnken, history professor at Iowa State University, for a viewing of Part 3 of ‘The Abolitionists’ at the Cowles-Kruidenier Auditorium at the State Historical Museum of Iowa in Des Moines. After the film, Behnken will provide historical background about the film’s topic, and Douglas W. Jones of the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) will provide a brief summary of the work being done on the history of Abolitionists and the Underground Railroad in Iowa. In addition, Lowell J. Soike will sign copies of his book, “Necessary Courage: Iowa’s Underground Railroad in the Struggle against Slavery.” Beaverdale Books will have copies available after the program.
