On Wednesday, February 12, at 7:00 pm, visit the Forbes House Museum for a tale of romance and adventure, with a side of wine and chocolate! Historian Amanda Goodheart Parks will present Sweethearts at Sea: Love and Marriage in the Age of Whaling. Parks' talk will focus on a remarkable couple who went to sea together aboard a whaleship — Captain John and Elizabeth Marble of Fall River, Massachusetts— using the letters and journals they left behind to tell a story of life, love, and loss at sea.

Parks is a public historian specializing in the study of women and gender. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has worked as a historian, museum educator, and historical interpreter at museums and historical sites across southern New England.

Sweethearts at Sea is offered in conjunction with the museum’s temporary exhibit, “Man Overboard! How One Man Reckoned with the Challenges of the Sea.”

Wine and gourmet chocolates will be served, and space is limited. Please purchase tickets in advance.
