Sunday Lecture: “Coming to Oregon and Making Community Here”
Sunday, April 21, 2 pm
Free and open to the public

During the twentieth century, 6 million African Americans left the South, making new homes and communities in the American West and North and forever changing those regions. Journalist Isabel Wilkerson, who will offer a Hatfield Lecture on April 16, tells their story in her book The Warmth of Other Suns, but does not focus on the Pacific Northwest. To help us understand how that history affected our own region, historian Dr. Carmen Thompson will facilitate a panel of elders who will talk about their experience as part of the twentieth-century Great Migration out of the South and into the Pacific Northwest.
