APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM (GRADES 9-11)

 June 30 - July 23, 2014

Offered Mondays through Friday
10:00am - 4:00pm

The Apprentice Program is a two week hands-on experience with the Old Salem Historic Trades staff. Apprentices will learn about the importance of trades and how the knowledge and skills of the craftsmen were handed down generation to generation.

Each apprentice will work on projects in several period crafts as well as cook a full historic meal in the Single Brothers House kitchen. They will learn more about the raw materials, tools and techniques used by Salem tradesmen and begin to develop the hand skills necessary to produce simple reproductions.

They will become familiar with the workings of a living history museum, see behind the scenes and meet the people that make Old Salem Museums & Gardens work. We will stress the importance of taking some information, processing it and interpreting it to others…while wearing proper period attire, of course.

1st Year: July 14-18 & July 22-23

2nd Year: June 30 - July 4 & July 8-9
