Jim Spurr will tell the famous, “Story of Friends Good Will.” Constructed by Detroit businessman Oliver Williams during the winter of 1810-1811, The Sloop was later made famous in Oliver Hazard Perry’s famous message to General William Henry Harrison after the Battle of Lake Erie. As part of the “1812: Star-Spangled Banner Nation” exhibit, the Detroit Public Library and the Michigan War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission are offering a series of six free Saturday lectures.
