Historic New England welcomes art historian Karen Zukowski for a special talk and tour of the Eustis Estate. During the Aesthetic Movement, homeowners like the Eustis family used finishes, fixtures, and furnishings to manipulate light and maximize the visual power of décor and architectural space.
 

Experience a unique opportunity to explore the sparkle and glow of artful lighting in a historic space. Following Karen's introductory talk in the main hall, explore the house to see how the latest technology of the era was used for maximum effect.
 

Karen Zukowski is an independent historian of late nineteenth-century American visual culture, with a special interest in interiors, especially artists’ houses. She is the co-editor of Frederic Church’s Olana on the Hudson: Art Landscape, Architecture (Rizzoli, 2018) and the author of Creating the Artful Home: The Aesthetic Movement (Gibbs Smith, 2006).
