As the world's first totally enclosed regional shopping mall, Southdale, built in 1956 in Edina, Minn., has had an enormous influence on how Americans shop and live. It is featured in the new PBS documentary "10 Buildings That Changed America," produced by WTTW in Chicago, which will be broadcast nationally May 12, 2013. Thomas Fisher, Dean of the University of Minnesota College of Design who is interviewed in the film, will give an illustrated presentation about the origins of the indoor shopping mall, Southdale architect Victor Gruen, and the legacy of Southdale on America.

A screening of excerpts from the documentary will precede the talk.
