RetroRama: Fashion with Soul

This year, RetroRama celebrates the first exhibit of “the pictureman” Charles Chamblis’s work, "Sights, Sounds, and Soul: Twin Cities through the lens of Charles Chamblis," opening at the Minnesota History Center on April 26th. Inspired by Chamblis’s photographs of African American musicians, fashion models and everyday people in Minneapolis (circa the 1970s and 80s) this year’s fashion show features vintage looks of that era and some of Chamblis’s own subjects modeling garments made especially for them by Twin Cities designers. The show will be emcee’d by Twin Cities phenom Fancy Ray McCloney and DJ’d by Larry “Spider” Hamilton, also a subject of Chamblis’s camera.
