Gather with us on Saturday, June 19 at the Museum of Printing and you will hear…A Tale of Paul Revere….

Back on March 7, 2020, mere days before the pandemic, Andy Volpe at the Printing Office of Edes & Gill in Faneuil Hall were printing his exact-size, hand-engraved replica of Revere's Boston Massacre plate as part of the 250th Anniversary events that day.  He also presented and demonstrated printing of Revere's works at the Worcester Art Museum as part of their “Beyond Midnight” exhibition, which happened to include an original Revere print on display (from the American Antiquarian Society)

Andy was scheduled to give this presentation in June of 2020, but as we all know, everything got put on hold.  So now we're going to try again!

Andy's replica is one of only a small handful of exact-size, hand-engraved replicas that have been attempted, since the Stratton “Fac-Similie" of 1830, and arguably since Mulliken's copy of Revere in 1770.  In this presentation, Andy will discuss some of the backstory of how Revere's print came to be, how Andy went about researching and replicating the print, down to the very same techniques Revere himself used, as well as some of the background of the replicas that exist today.

Current plans (subject to change) are to have a limited number of these hand-printed and hand-colored replicas available for purchase.   Program is currently scheduled for 11AM and 2PM, free with Museum admission.
