Are you working with a local historical organization with a collection of documents and objects or taking care of important family papers and heirlooms? If so, this one-day workshop is designed for you. Presented in partnership with the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC), whose staff will lead the workshop, the content is designed for small historical organizations, small museums, and local historical societies as well as individuals who are the custodians of important family papers and heirlooms. It will cover the agents of deterioration that affect our collections (the environment, pests, and mold), as well as cover best practices for storage and handling of archives and artifacts. Collection items that are hazards will also be discussed.

  • Time is allotted for questions, and participants are encouraged to bring items that are stable enough to travel along for discussion
  • Lunch is on your own from 12-1PM
  • There are a number of places within short walking distance of MHS to get food
