This 1764 bill of sale for Phebey, an enslaved 2 year-old, is one of the most challenging and emotionally evocative objects in the Framingham History Center's collection. How do we grapple with the evidence of enslavement and oppression in our community? How can we use empathy to illuminate history? When we look at the past with clarity, how does it inform our present?

Join Framingham History Center Curator Stacen Goldman for an active discussion about the significance of this object and the strong emotions it evokes. Stacen Goldman has worked in local history for eight years, and has been the Curator at the Framingham History Center for the past four. Her work is focused on democratizing historical collections and imagining creative ways of engaging with history through material culture. The goal of her work is to make people feel immersed, empowered, and emotionally invested in community history. Stacen holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Bard College and a Master of Arts in History with a certificate in Historical Agencies and Administration from Northeastern University. She was previously the director of the South End Historical Society in Boston.
