Festive luminaries, carolers, period entertainment, re-enactors, and refreshments.

On Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. the New Castle Historical Society’s (NCHS) Amstel House and Dutch House will be open for candlelight tours along with the Delaware Historical Society’s (DHS) Read House & Gardens and the New Castle Court House Museum, operated by the State of Delaware. Visitors will walk from one historic site to the next along New Castle’s charming brick sidewalks, lined with festive luminaries, and may even meet a group of carolers along the way!

The theme for this year’s Candlelight event is “Home For The Holidays,” and the event commemorates the Delaware homefront during times of conflict. Each of the museums will highlight a different conflict – from the Anglo-Dutch wars of the 17th century through the American Revolution and War of 1812 to the most recent wars of the modern era. The house museums will feature costumed reenactors and period entertainment and refreshments. The New Castle Court House Museum will feature very special holiday trees decorated with photos of Delaware veterans.
