A New Monthly Webinar Series

The Dedham Historical Society & Museum (DHSM) is introducing a new webinar series to be held the Third Thursday of each month. Each webinar will consist of a presentation related to the DHSM’s collections and Dedham’s history, and will be followed by a question and answer session. The programs will be recorded and posted on DHSM's website, https://dedhamhistorical.org.

Paul Revere: Beyond Silver
Revere is widely known as a silversmith and patriot. He was also an entrepreneur and manufacturer who started successful iron foundries and copper rolling mills. Professor Rob Martello will share the story of the DHSM’s 1798 courthouse bell in the context of Revere’s business ventures. Mr. Martello is a professor of the History of Science and Technology at Olin College of Engineering, and has been a contributing scholar to the Revere exhibition Beyond Midnight, in which the bell is on view.

Third Thursdays Save the date: November19, 2020: Dr. David Hall will speak on the early religious history of Dedham, in “Dedham at the Center of the Universe: Fairness as a Civic Principle (1636), ‘Visible Saints’ as a Religious Principle (1637), and a Solomon and the Baby Decision About Church Property (1820s).” Dr. Hall is a scholar of New England church history and is the Bartlett Research Professor at Harvard Divinity School. 

Forthcoming Third Thursday programs will include presentations on trains and transportation in Dedham; Chelsea Keramic and Dedham Pottery; the Indigenous Peoples of Dedham; the history of St. Mary’s Church; Dedham furniture; the portrait of Deborah Ames, and more.
