February 21, 2013   5:15 pm–7:00 pm

What do "Casablanca," "West Side Story" and "Citizen Kane" all have in common? They are among more than 15,000 motion pictures (and television shows) included in the Wisconsin Center for Film and Theater Research (WCFTR), a cooperative program of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Wisconsin Historical Society.

Join the WCFTR, the Wisconsin Historical Society and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries for a pre-Oscars celebration of the history of film and theater. Enjoy complimentary hors d' oeuvres and a brief presentation by Hollywood researcher and writer Pat McGilligan — plus, get a special behind-the-scenes look at a variety of one-of-a-kind items from one of the world's largest archives related to the entertainment industry. A few of the items on display will include the following:

  • Orson Welles' script for "Citizen Kane"
  • Costume designer Edith Head's drawings and photographs from "To Catch a Thief"
  • A display of images of historic Milwaukee movie theaters and palaces from the 1910s and 1920s
  • Scripts, scores and photographs from "West Side Story"
