Living History Weekend in Texas

Our annual Living History Weekend is the largest event of its kind in Texas, with visitors from across the nation coming to view our award-winning Living History Displays, shop in the Military Swap Meet, and to witness the roar of tanks in our WWII Battle reenactment! This family-friendly event is sure to have something for everyone!

Military Vehicle Rally
Military history buffs and gamers alike will marvel at the award winning display of fully restored and operational military vehicles and artillery. The museum’s own impressive collection of WWII- Vietnam era vehicles will be out for full display with living historians available to talk about the vehicles, their operation, and their upkeep. Restoration enthusiasts from across the US will also be present to proudly display their own military vehicles!

Narrated WWII Living History Displays
Take a stroll through the living history camps, and learn about the daily lives of both Axis and Allied servicemen and women. See original or carefully reproduced equipment and uniforms. Our living historians are passionate about their roles, to the point that most camp out in the very tents you see! Displays include General Patton’s Command Tent, Camp Lili (American Signal Corps Unit), US Infantry and Airborne Paratroopers camps, as well as German Infantry Camps.

Military Swap Meet
Have an itch to bring home some history? Over 30 vendors will be present selling items ranging from patches, medals, toys, uniforms, vehicle parts to vehicles. The fun is in the hunt!

Historic Small Arms Demonstrations
Hear the pattering of machine guns and feel the heat of a flame thrower as living historians explain and demonstrate the power, precision, and roles of different small arms.

Junior G.I. Zone
Let the little ones explore and play in our brand new G.I. Zone! Activities are appropriate for ages 12 and under.

UH-1 Bell Iroquois Helicopter Rides Courtesy of the Collings Foundation
Take flight in a Vietnam-era Iroquois Helicopter! No flying license needed!
*$80/person. Rides start only when vehicle full. All proceeds go to the Collings Foundation. Rides on Saturday only.

Shoot a Howitzer
Feel the power of the museum’s 75mm Pack Howitzer! Participants will get to shoot off one blank, experiencing the force of this amazing piece of artillery.
*$40/round

Vietnam Air Assault Reenactment
New this year, on Saturday morning, reenactors will demonstrate a helicopter landing that was emblematic of one of America’s most controversial conflicts.

WWII Battle Reenactment
The shining moment of the weekend, at 3PM on Saturday, with a smaller reenactment on Sunday, the museum will put on the largest WWII battle reenactment of the South! Experience battle up-close, hear the rumbles of engines, feel the vibrations of cannon fire, smell the smoke, and witness the power of these historic pieces of equipment! Sure to entertain and enrapture visitors of all ages!
