Cortney Stone specializes in women’s history and serves as a historical interpreter and volunteer with the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. She portrays Ruth Sloan, a fictional character based on actual Oklahoma suffragists in the year 1918, and will speak about women’s rights and the campaign for woman suffrage in Oklahoma. The woman suffrage movement worked tirelessly for three decades in Oklahoma and faced many difficulties, including legal challenges and hostility from the state legislature, before the state recognized a woman’s right to vote.
