Inventing “The Guns That Won the West:” The Early Winchester Lever-Action Rifles.  MHS Museum Technician Vic Reiman will discuss the development of the toggle-link action rifles of the early Winchester line:  the Henry rifle and the Winchester Models 1866, 1873, and 1876.  These rifles were ubiquitous during the years from 1860 into the early 20th Century.  Ultimately the toggle link action became obsolete because it could not stand up to the strain of firing the newly developed high-powered cartridges.  None the less the early Winchester rifles will always be remembered as iconic firearms of the Old West.
