On Friday December 11, just before the 247th anniversary of The Boston Tea Party, History At Play™, LLC presents The Massacre Orations of Dr. Joseph Warren, a solo interpretive event by historical reenactor Spencer Van Herik, only @Pay-Per-HAP,  our Facebook Live viewing Group.
In The Massacre Orations , Van Herik recalls the heroics of Dr. Joseph Warren. He transports us to March 6, 1775 for Dr. Warren’s second Massacre Oration; Dr. Warren had authored the Suffolk Resolves in September 1774 and Massachusetts Bay Colony was in a state of Rebellion against Great Britain. Van Herik reinterprets this fiery speech by the prestigious doctor; who, amidst rumors of an assassination attempt, elects to deliver his oration wearing only breeches and a toga. Channeling Joseph Addison’s play Cato, a Tragedy (1713), Warren’s daring and dramatic speech, transcribed for a contemporary audience, lives on to recount the tale of the definitive precursor to an American Revolution.

Spencer Van Herik is a historical reenactor from Chicago, Illinois. He has dedicated himself to reenacting Dr. Joseph Warren and communicating the legacy of 18th Century America. He runs an Instagram account archiving Warren’s life and the history of Revolutionary Boston, which can be found at @dr.josephwarren, as well as on his other Socials. Spencer is also a musician and songwriter.

No recording, reproduction, distribution, nor download of this performance is permitted. Running time: 45 minutes. DISCLAIMER: Contains language that may not be suitable for younger audiences (PG-13).
