"Let everyone who can spare at least an hour set out one tree on the public commons."
Henry Chandler Bowen, in The Independent, May 5, 1881

Celebrate Henry Bowen's 200th birthday in the traditional manner of presidents, luminaries, and Bowen himself: gather on the common with dignitaries, townspeople, fire brigades, and admirers of Roseland Cottage, and plant a tree. Then, cross the road to Roseland Cottage and enjoy a concert by the 102nd Army Band. Tour Mr. Bowen’s remarkable summer home, barn, and outbuildings, including areas not usually seen by visitors. Lift a glass of pink lemonade to Woodstock’s favorite son, feast on cake and ice cream, and join in a rousing chorus of "Happy Birthday."
