"France in the Americas," a lecture by David Bell

Princeton University Professor of History David Bell will give a lecture on French exploration and settlement in the Americas in the 17th and 18th centuries, starting with the founding of colonies in Acadia and Québec, as well as the founding of Louisiana at the turn of the 18th century. Bell will also discuss France’s efforts to establish a North American empire and the clash between France and Britain, culminating in the French and Indian War of 1754-63. Throughout the lecture, Bell will explore aspects of the French Huguenot experience.

A reception and book signing will precede the lecture.
