This talk will explore the history of African Americans' involvement in the Boston suffrage movement. How did the Boston movement compare to the national movement in discussions of race? In what ways did African American women participate in the local suffrage movement, and how did their activism extend beyond women's suffrage? Join National Parks of Boston's Student Conservation Association Public Historian Katie Woods as we discover and elevate the voices of women who participated in the fight for equal rights for women and African Americans alike. 

Presenter Katie Woods is a Student Conservation Association Public Historian with the National Parks of Boston. Her research has focused on the Boston suffrage movement and women's activism at the turn of the 20th century, with a particular emphasis in elevating the voices of African American women. She graduated from Northeastern University in 2019 with a Master of Arts degree in Public History and a certificate in the Digital Humanities.
