Historic New England welcomes Jim Donahue, curator of historic landscapes and horticulture at The Preservation Society of Newport County, for a special talk on landscape architect and Milton resident Ernest W. Bowditch (1850-1918).

Over a forty-year career, Bowditch's firm designed more than 2,500 projects ranging from Gilded Age estate master plans to planned garden suburbs and civil engineering projects. The Eustis Estate was one of his early projects, but it was the landscape plan for The Breakers in Newport that launched him to prominence. Learn about his relationship to the Vanderbilt family and the private paradise they created at The Breakers.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a reception before the lecture.
