Echoes in Time Theatre: When the Circus Came to Town: The Sells Brothers

In 1872, the three Sells brothers joined together to start a circus. Using their combined capital and borrowing to their full ability, they began with just one tent. Their first exhibition was given in Columbus on April 27, 1872. Home people were kind to them; the newspapers punned on the name of Sells and made fun of the fact that the show had no elephant; they bought an old elephant that died soon afterward. The Sells Brothers Circus maintained winter quarters in northwest Columbus, in an area that came to be known as Sellsville. Jennifer Rounds portrays a member of the Sells Brothers Circus in this one-woman performance.
