Join us for film and discussion on "The Abolitionists." A small group of reformers in the 1830s launched one of the most ambitious social movements imaginable: the immediate emancipation of millions of enslaved African Americans.

Discussion Leader: Babette Faehmel, Assistant Professor, Schenectady County Community College.

The Created Equal: America's Civil Rights Struggle series is made possible with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

Directions/Transportation/Parking

Accessibility The first floor of 32 Washington Avenue, including the library and the main floor of the museum, is wheelchair accessible; exhibits on the second floor of the museum are not currently wheelchair-accessible.

Parking There is a small parking lot directly beside the main entrance — follow the driveway directly to the right of the building. Alternately, visitors can park in the YWCA lot next door. If you park in the YWCA lot, you will see a sidewalk to follow from the parking lot that will take you to our main entrance.

Directions From Albany and East: Take New York State Thruway (I-90 West) to exit 25 (I-890), Follow I-890 to exit 4C (Route 5 exit). Follow exit ramp and at light, go straight onto Washington Avenue. The Society is on the left at 32 Washington Avenue.From Amsterdam and West: Take New York State Thruway (I-90 East) towards New York City to Exit 26 to I-890 East. Follow I-890 to exit 4B (Erie Boulevard). Bear far to the left and follow signs to exit to Route 5. At the light, go straight onto Washington Avenue. The Society is on the left at 32 Washington Avenue.
